My wife and I went back to our parents house’s to spend the 4th of July the way we were accustumed to; lot’s of food and fireworks. The night of the 3rd we went to Osceola, IA to watch the Terrible Casino fireworks show, however, we were about a mile away from where they were launching them from. The only real downside of this is the lack of boom rumbling the sky from the beautiful explosions.
The next day, I slept in of course and proceeded to get ready to help my father with setting up the tents at McKinley Park in Creston, IA. We got the tents, food, drinks, and grille loaded up and hauled down to the park and setup in preparation of our afternoon festivities. After I was finished helping out with that I apparently got roped into helping my in-laws cook the hamburgers, chicken and brauts. I don’t mind cooking but it was pretty dang hot out so the heat from the grille was brutal. Oh well, good food and company made up for that.
Next the grand finale of the 4th, well the afternoon anyways included more bbq, drinks, and a funnel cake that I had to wait in line for an hour and a half to get. Most would shy away from that but the juice was surely worth the squeeze. We played homerun derby with a plastic bat and ball and a little bit of frisby to keep the time going while at the park but it was nice having a majority of the family together for the holiday. The Creston fireworks are always spectacular so driving two and a half hours to get their and getting home at 2 a.m. was worth it. I love the fourth of July.
